smoke in your eyes a lover’s disguise wrapped in all the layers I see you in there I see you in there we’re pulled towards someone a flower to the sun open and they’ll find you you are not alone you are not alone wave to the sun it is shining wave coming in woah... sift through the sand find gold in your hands dancing in the river you spin her around you spin her around wave to the sun it is shining wave coming in woah...

battle lines drawn across your face memories of darker days the road you’ve walked, the steps you’ve made have led you to this place today remember the boy you once were before the war, before the cure like a butterfly you have changed in size and form, you’ve rearranged let your new eyes ease their gaze reframe the scene, see in between with rays of light that shine above they’ve been here all along my love lift your head out of the sand redefine what it is to be a man black mirror looking back at you can steal your face, can turn you blue step out of the ring of fire are you led by love or by desire turn your good ear to the speaker begin to hear a little clearer wearing hand-me downs that do not fit colonial costumes and puritan shit take off these clothes, shed your skin you’re ready to begin again I dig witches of the past the badass queens in the current cast we feel your mind, we got your back the fearless leaders of this pack let your new eyes ease their gaze reframe the scene, see in between with rays of light that shine above they’ve been here all along my love

take a shovel up to the mountain there’s gold up in them hills spend a lifetime dirty digging your own grave and your free will staring at a clock with no hands wonder where the time went chasing a wife and a white picket fence forget about the moment can’t find what you ain’t really looking for can’t find, can’t find, can’t find can’t find what you ain’t really looking for ain’t really looking for sugar candy straight to the brain fleeting high has passed you by you can’t fill a leaking tank no matter how hard you try no matter how hard you try can’t find what you ain’t really looking for… I was lost in the American dream - find me I was lost in the American dream - find me I was lost in the American dream - find me I was lost in the Amer–-- in the darkest of danger find ourselves with no illusions staring face to face with fear become the solution can’t find what you ain’t really looking for…

Santiago 03:50
there’s a brass band in the street I swear it’s not in my head won’t you come meet me we’ll dance with the dead it’s Sunday in Santiago and the beat is real loud we take it to our bones it’s heard high up in the clouds we find ourselves in a dark and hallowed bar there’s a priest in the corner strums a five string guitar to the ramblers and seekers and curious eyes desperate to be seen revealed from their disguise I go back to the old home where once I did live faded pictures on the ground I try hard to forgive ten years have gone and went yet the smell remains the same mother’s just a memory look what we became la da dai dai, dai dai I saw the devil in a dream and he lived in a white house fear was his only weapon you could see through his doubt so I looked him in the eye and I asked him to oblige played him this song and he sang along to my surprise la da dai dai, dai dai we witness the madness as if we’re far beyond the crime laughing at the sadness we distance our own kind there’s a story in our bones that can’t go ignored we’re more like our enemies than we believed before la da dai dai, dai dai

dear soul on the other side my guitar, do you hear it cry the beat of the drum, do you feel it pound the land we walk on, our shared ground you hold a gun, I’ve got my violin life and death, held in our hands lightning, thunder, sheets of sound a love supreme, turn us around trying to get free trying to get free trying to get free a billion people at our fingertips never felt so far away truth is lost in the webs cut the strings of our marionettes trying to get free… broken systems work by design dividing us right down the line language of love loses its meaning with my guitar I’ll go out dreaming stand up, break down, (get free) rise up, right now, (get free) here we, come now, (get free) all of, us now, (get free)

child is dancing in the morning light it’s all in her grooving freedom alive the world through her eyes a new everyday may her spirit guide us to another way we are the ones we’re waiting for back in my mind drowning in pain we’re millions of pieces shattered in the rain climb up that mountain so you can see below when living in the madness don’t know where to go we are the ones we’re waiting for paradise on fire our home has burned on down smoke signals tell us time to turn around many friends we’ve lost good men have died a year filled with sorrow the tears we have cried we are the ones we’re waiting for our story ain’t over this page has just begun out of the darkness step into the sun child is dancing in the morning light it’s all in her grooving freedom alive we are the ones we’re waiting for

Ones & Zeros 03:54
our differences shine under neon spotlights while the same dna has to hide away living in a stream of fear and violence keeps the power at the top and the people at bay talking with the trolls, like the prophets of the fold while we’re digging our holes, to bury our souls attraction to distraction 24 hours, 8 days a week you can’t feed the pack if the lion’s got the meat can you see it do you feel it time marches on and the brains grow smaller while the minds in our hands turn people into dollars and the ones and zeros never adding up to much now we’re dots on a line and we’re losing sense of touch but the economy, the economy, will lead us to glory it was written in the good book, some old bible story I will make a great nation of your people now it’s carved in the wood of the biggest steeple it’s so unbelievable yet it so conceivable can you see it do you feel it there are stories, buried beneath our skin it will take some digging before you will find em on the long last path from where we began find the footprints of our kin in the desert sand mother Africa is where we came our fire’s a spark from the very same flame but it’s burning at the seams that bring us together while we fight behind screens but nothing gets better open your heart and you’re bound to see we’ve been taught to divide individually can you see it do you feel it 24 hours, 8 days a week you can’t feed the pack if the lion’s got the meat can you see it do you feel it

are you the color you choose or does the color choose you no blue in this scene oil falling on sky it’s neither day or the night can you see in between I have come to call you now I have come to call you now I have come to call you now call you now, call you now painter, don’t throw your brush away painter, don’t throw your brush away there is a face taking form don’t know where it comes from but you see where it’s going so you follow the voice do you have any choice you either sink or you float I have come to call you now I have come to call you now I have come to call you now call you now, call you now painter, don’t throw your brush away painter, don’t throw your brush away we see the world scroll on by are we demand or supply as we run in the wheel poems lost in the air the singer’s killed by despair as the actors reveal I have come to call you now I have come to call you now I have come to call you now call you now, call you now painter, don’t throw your brush away painter, don’t throw your brush away painter, don’t throw your brush away painter, don’t throw your brush away

about

A note from Avi about the album:

Dear friends,

As I navigate through our beautiful and broken world, I feel blessed by the gifts of music, the transcendent thread that has brought great meaning and purpose to my life. I grew up learning to play on my father’s old Yamaha and that guitar has now taken me across five continents, trading songs and stories with Tuaregs by the fireside in the Sahel Desert, with young Palestinian and Israeli musicians in Jerusalem, Native Americans at Standing Rock, and big stages from Rio to Carnegie Hall. It’s been an incredible journey so far, allowing me to connect the past, present, and future.

Our recent history has brought us face to face with dangers of a political, spiritual, and even existential nature. The Coronavirus reminds us that we are all inextricably connected and we have the power to pass on both life and death, love and hatred. I wrote the song, “Trying to Get Free,” on Jan. 7, 2021, the day after the insurrection on the capitol, deeply disturbed as I watched the violence and division in our country come to a head. I believe our individual freedom and well-being are woven together with all living beings and that none of us are free until we all are free. I see the world seemingly so connectead by the internet and technology, yet we’re so far away from the humanity, ecological consciousness, and universal truths that bind us together. The disparity we're facing on a global level has fueled our band’s urgency to create art and music that bring people together. “Trying To Get Free” is our call to action to break down the systems and culture that perpetuate division and build a new legacy together.

To quote one of my favorite Spanish poets, Antonio Machado, “Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar.” Traveler there is no path, we make the road by walking.

Creating this album was an act of liberation. I am forever grateful to our beautiful community of friends and fans and all the people who shared their talents on this record. May these songs lift you up and bring us closer together.

Love,
